Joining Davies as a Team Manager means you will manage colleagues, handle allocated claims and ensure that all claims are handled in accordance with client requirements so experience in a similar role is essential. You will be responsible for the achievement of the team’s targets and operational measures, delivery of a quality service and client service compliance. 
    What will your day look like: Leading the Team Take responsibility for establishing a high performance culture within their team Motivate, innovate and build rapport  Take responsibility for own development, working under limited supervision Be flexible in approach, determined and willing to work outside normal office hours where required  Claims handling and team management  Review and allocate new claims, ensuring strategies are set and initial reserves are appropriate having regard to the value and complexity of the case (this responsibility may be delegated to suitable handlers under supervision where agreed with the Operations Manager) Approve payments within their financial authority levels Undertake reviews for files handled within their team to ensure individual team members attain the required quality standards Ensure the team create and maintain accurate claims management system records Identify the teams’ training needs and recommend appropriate training solutions to meet performance requirements, drawing on the relevant expertise within the firm Review files progressing to litigation and record reasons & lessons learned Service Delivery and Compliance Be competent and demonstrate leadership with all relevant IT (Microsoft), Case, BI, and the HR systems, contributing to projects including systems and process development Drive continuous improvement in claims handling, ensuring adherence to client specific protocols, agreements and delivery of key performance indicators Use appropriate systems to monitor staff performance, productivity, sickness and holidays  Hold regular 1-2-1s with staff to maximise performance and to acknowledge good performance  Manage unsatisfactory performance of individuals within the team, liaising with HR where appropriate Assist in the completion of performance reviews in a fair, consistent and timely manner Assist the Operations Manager in the assessment of the capacity of the team to ensure this is aligned with business objectives, strategy and priorities  Assist in the recruitment of claims handlers and support staff when requested Undertake presentations to colleagues at various levels in a manner which is motivational and sets expectations for quality and performance standards Ensure the team is kept up to date with internal and external developments, including leading regular team meetings Ensure compliance with statutory and regulatory requirements Actively support and promote the firms values and policies in a professional manner  Assist in internal and external audit Client Management  Assist with the preparation of client, team and sector analysis and statistics Assist in bulk client file reviews to support policy year, pre-renewal or subject matter initiatives Have excellent communication skills with an ability to engage with clients and effect & manage change Use client knowledge to aid opportunities for the business to extend services or cross sell

The role works in close partnership with clients, internal teams, and market stakeholders to ensure that Asta and its syndicates can anticipate, withstand, respond to, and recover from operational disruption, safeguarding the interests of the business, our clients, and policyholders.

    A key focus of this role is the oversight and assurance of third-party relationships, with particular emphasis on technology and critical service providers, including enterprise-level agreements with leading market vendors. This encompasses assessing and managing resilience and security risks within the supply chain, driving improvements in third-party governance, and ensuring compliance with regulatory and market standards.

    The Business Resilience Manager is also responsible for coordinating and delivering timely, accurate risk reporting for both internal governance and external regulatory purposes. This includes providing regular updates to senior management and relevant boards on the state of operational resilience, key risks, incidents, and the effectiveness of continuity and third-party assurance artefacts, enabling informed decision-making and compliance with all regulatory requirements.

    Your New Role Design, manage, and continuously improve Asta’s Business Resilience and Business Continuity frameworks, working closely with internal stakeholders and clients to identify important business services, map resources, set impact tolerances, and embed/update business continuity plans and assessments. Develop, deliver, and oversee business resilience testing plans in collaboration with client IT and Asta IT to address technology risks, ensuring testing adherence to schedules, and remediation of gaps from tests, incidents, and audits. Maintain and execute crisis management and incident response procedures in alignment with Business Resilience and Business Continuity requirements. Ensure compliance of all Business Resilience frameworks with UK and international regulations, preparing timely reports and updates including annual self-assessments for Boards and Committees. Design, manage, and enhance Asta’s third-party governance and risk management framework, ensuring regulatory compliance, collaboration across key functions, and maintaining a third-party risk taxonomy and classification framework.     TEAMWORK: Working closely as a dedicated assistant within Julie's mini team, you will help manage the overall caseload  COMMUNICATE: with insurer clients, dealing with their queries and updating them as the matter progresses.  ANALYSIS: Forensic analysis of voluminous quantum evidence STRATEGY: Drafting concise technical advice on all aspects of claim handling to include advice on reserves, indemnity, liability, quantum and causation issues and claims resolution for strategy discussion with the Lead Lawyer PROACTIVITY: identify next steps required on matter, discussing those aspects with the Lead Lawyer and taking action as agreed.  TECHNICAL: Interviewing witnesses and drafting statements. Liaising with parties involved in claims including the insured, insurer, witnesses etc. Drafting pleadings and applications. Instructing counsel and attending conferences, JSMs, mediations both remotely and in person. Attend court in person or by telephone, attend trials, settlement conferences etc as required. TARGETS: Delivery of agreed performance targets (including chargeable hours) and quality standards. DELEGATION: assign tasks for Paralegal and be fully engaged in their development in terms of technical ability and achievement of objectives. CASE MANAGEMENT: Maintain case managements systems with up-to-date management information for clients. 

    Skills, Knowledge & ExpertiseWhat you’ll have: You will be a qualified solicitor, CILEX or have proven legal experience in a similar role You will have dealt with multi-track litigation in a similar role assisting on large loss and/or catastrophic injury claims You will have experience of indemnity and RTA and EL PL liability and complex medical issues and causation A Defendant or Claimant background – we are happy to consider either  You will have a good understanding with experience of case law, litigation practice & process and Court Practice Rules A positive and forward-thinking attitude towards learning and developing A good team spirit and work ethic You will be fully engaged in the development of yourself and others You will have the ability to deliver an outstanding service to clients

    Your Role:

    As our next Assistant Lawyer to join the Birmingham office, you will be working alongside Partner, Marsha Godwin. You will work closely with Marsha and the team in handling a mixture of complex, high value EL, PL and RTA multi-track claims.

    Key Responsibilities As Assistant to Marsha:

The role will include: Working with the Partner to manage a caseload of complex injury claims including high value multi-track and catastrophic injury claims involving brain injury, spinal cord injury, amputation and fatal claims Communicating with insurer clients, dealing with their queries and updating them as the matter progresses.
