    Responsibilities
    To act as a project Design HSE Engineer on those projects which are assigned by the Chief Design HSE Engineer and to carry out Design HSE design work on such projects.     HS2 Rail Systems Package 2 involves the design, supply, build, testing and commissioning of all tunnel and lineside M&E systems between London and Birmingham. Scope of works includes installation of tunnel ventilation, cable management, containment and earthing, fire suppression systems, LV distribution and tunnel lighting, cross passage doors, earthing & bonding, points heating, junction lighting and power installation. Costain will be prime contractor, delivering the works with the support of a design team and specialist supply chain partners.

    Costain is required by HS2 in the to undertake System Safety activities for the M&E systems scope of works in line with HS2 statutory obligations under the Railway and Other Guided Systems Regulations (ROGS), the Common Safety Method on Risk Evaluation and Assessment (CSM-RA) and National Technical Specifications Notices (NTSNs) . This includes undertaking system safety hazard identification and risk assessments, identifying safety measures and evidence of implementation and the associated management plans and reports.

    Responsibilities
    Support the System Safety Manager to maintain the Safety Management Plan.
    Liaise with design, procurement and construction leads and relevant subcontracts to ensure appropriate System Safety activities are planned and undertaken across multiple assets on the project throughout the technical lifecycle. This includes activities such as:
    Run hazard identification using hazard identification workshops (HazIDs), hazard and operability studies (HazOPs) and other hazard management processes. Undertake risk analysis and evaluations to demonstrate the Risk Acceptance Criteria are met and that risks are reduced So Far As Is Reasonably Practicable (SFAIRP)/As Low as Reasonably Practicable (ALARP) or that Harmonised Design Targets are met Assist the System Safety Lead in producing / collating safety evidence and engineering safety justification documentation. Create and populate a Product Breakdown Structure and collate and record the required certification documentation and / or engineering assessment. Production and submission of asset specific system safety status reports to support the progressive assurance of the construction phase. Provide advice on system safety practices and procedures to construction project teams. Prepare and deliver briefings and awareness training to engender the appropriate system safety competence within the project team. Report on system safety activities progress and issues across the project area to the System Safety Lead. Contribute to the continued improvement of the technical assurance strategy, processes and systems. Support activities undertaken by the wider Assurance Team, including T t racking system safety assurance deliverables by asset and project phase. Contributing to Technical Assurance activities required to achieve L3 Certification.
    Qualifications
    Exposure to, or an interest in Systems Engineering and Technical Assurance; Experience of the application of system safety assurance processes in major railway projects, particularly Common Safety Method. Familiar with BS EN 50126 Capable of working collaboratively and effectively with project delivery teams, management and the project leadership, clients, sub-contractors and other major stakeholders; High standard of verbal and written communication skills and interpersonal skills, able to communicate technical assurance and system engineering concepts to construction teams; Awareness of the various disciplines involved in delivering major railway projects, their roles and responsibilities and their relationship to assurance.     When taking on one of the many apprenticeships on offer by Costain, you will be supported by your project line manager and team, the Costain Early Careers Team, and the training provider of your academic qualification. The training provider may be a college, a university or even an independent training provider.
    You will be supported throughout your apprenticeship by your local team and line manager, and you will be given time to carry out your studies with the provider etc. Your on-the-job training will be in line with the work available on site but will afford the opportunity to ensure that you are given on site experience required to meet the technical and competency levels in order to achieve your apprenticeship goals.
    Responsibilities
    During this comprehensive apprenticeship, you\\\'ll rotate through various placements in key project delivery areas, with support from our industry experts, including:
    Project Management: Learn to oversee and drive projects from start to finish Project Controls: Gain insights into managing project budgets, schedules, and resources. Quality: Be involved with checking, measuring, and evaluating the quality of your project work against the quality criteria and standards, and taking corrective actions if needed Commercial: ensure that all commercial aspects of the projects under their remit are properly managed and controlled, and that commercial strategy is developed and delivered in accordance with the requirements of the business. Construction: Get hands-on experience in the execution and operational phases of projects.
    Throughout the programme, you will be integral to the success of pioneering projects.
    Qualifications
    - Minimum of 5 GCSEs Grade 4/C in Mathematics, English Language & or Science/Engineering subject
    - Minimum of 96 UCAS Points, at A Level / T-Level, all subjects considered
    - Other Level 3 qualifications may be considered
    - Vocational equivalents at level 3 or higher will also be considered as equivalent to UCAS points
    - Functional Skills Level 2 will also be considered as equivalent to GCSE Grade 4/C
