    About the Role Join Connect Plus Services and become part of the new Soft Estates Maintenance Team, responsible for delivering safe and efficient soft estate maintenance across the M25 DBFO Network. In this role, you will carry out a wide range of soft estates works, hazard clearance and network maintenance tasks, contributing directly to the safety and operational efficiency of one of the UK’s busiest motorways. As a Soft Estate Operative Level 0, you will use your skills and experience to maintain grassed areas, vegetation, ditches and other grounds while supporting the safe operation of the highway network. This is a hands‑on, operational role offering practical experience and the opportunity to make a tangible impact on the daily running of a critical infrastructure asset. What You’ll Be Doing You will undertake routine soft estate maintenance, including grass cutting, heavy vegetation clearance, arboriculture works, ditch clearance and weed spraying. You will maintain and clear signs, operate soft estate plant—including chainsaws, chippers, Robomowers, ride‑on mowers, strimmers and hedge cutters—and ensure all work is completed safely and efficiently. You will accurately record and report activities using mobile communication and data devices, maintain driving and vehicle records and take care of all CPS property, including vehicles, radios and tablets. You will report any issues affecting the safe operation of the network and contribute to the Winter Service rota and other operational requirements as needed. Safety is central to this role. You will actively support Zero Harm initiatives, attend training courses as required and uphold the Balfour Beatty values while contributing to CPS’s sustainability objectives. Who We’re Looking For We are seeking a skilled, safety‑focused Soft Estate Operative Level 0 with the following: A valid UK Driving Licence (minimum Category C / LGV Class 1) Driver Qualification Card (CPC) A current CSCS Operative Card Relevant elements of Sector Scheme 18 Registration on the Register of Land‑based Operations (ROLO) You will have proven experience working on a live motorway or All‑Purpose Trunk Road (APTR) network and be fully competent in operating soft estate plant, including chainsaws, chippers, Robomowers, ride‑on mowers, strimmers and hedge cutters. Working Arrangements (ISU Operative – Shift Work and Travel) Expected to work on a 4-on, 4-off shift pattern, rotating equally between four day shifts and four night shifts. Shift start times vary according to the scheduled roster: Day shifts: 06:00 to 18:00 or 07:00 to 19:00. Night shifts: 18:00 to 06:00 or 19:00 to 07:00. Each shift includes two 30-minute breaks. Reasonable level of travel around the M25 network and between depots. Travel to meetings, training, and work sites outside the normal operational area. Expected to participate in out-of-hours call-out rotas (e.g., Winter Maintenance). What You’ll Be Doing Provide the initial response and arrange specialist advice at the scene of road-related incidents, hazards, and collisions, acting in a bronze incident command capacity and working safely in accordance with agreed CPS policies, method statements, and risk assessments to facilitate prompt hazard/incident clearance. Undertake activities, as instructed, to ensure that your area of responsibility is maintained. This will include, but is not limited to: Cyclical maintenance. Carriageway repairs. Join our Commercial Team as a Senior Estimator, working within our Change Team What You’ll Be Doing As a Senior Estimator, you will have the following accountabilities: Undertake estimates in accordance with the company’s policies and procedures. Review technical reports, drawings, and specifications to prepare accurate costing sheets for materials, labour, and equipment. Translate measurements from drawings and specifications and prepare Bills of Quantities and Schedules of Rates. Oversee and/or interrogate design options and ‘value’ solutions, and, if appropriate, identify the attractiveness of a project based on sound estimating principles. Mentor and support more junior members of the team. Record assumptions and identify risks and opportunities, including supporting the development of risk evaluation from a pricing/budgetary perspective. Liaise with members of the Change Team, wider Connect Plus Services team, other BB business units, and the supply chain to develop and understand proposed methodologies and principles. Maintain and update the library of rates on CANDY estimating software. Who We’re Looking For Infrastructure main contractor background, ideally within the highways term-maintenance market. Previous experience in estimating heavy civil engineering projects (commercial or operational background considered). Chartered by a relevant industry-recognised body (e.g., ICE, CICES, RICS, CIOB) – desirable. Proficient in the use of Excel and other Microsoft Office programmes (Word, Outlook) and similar software. Experienced estimating background using CANDY estimating software – desirable. A valid CSCS card. Working knowledge of best practice solutions, optimisation of innovative ideas, and an understanding of Lean Construction principles and cost planning within a long-term highways maintenance setting – desirable. Understanding of BIM and the ability to read and assemble BIM models and produce appropriate reports – desirable. Good working knowledge of pricing and quantification methods. Strong interpersonal and communication skills, coupled with the ability to form effective relationships with internal and external partners.
