    About the RoleBalfour Beatty currently has an opportunity for an Incident Support Unit (ISU) Operative Level 1 to work on the M25 – one of the busiest and most important sections of road in the UK. As part of the Connect Plus Services business based in Leatherhead, you will be responsible for assisting in the efficient service delivery of the M25 DBFO Network by undertaking a wide range of incident response, hazard clearance, network maintenance, and other tasks as required. Working Arrangements (ISU Operative – Shift Work and Travel) Expected to work on a 4-on, 4-off shift pattern, rotating equally between four day shifts and four night shifts. Shift start times vary according to the scheduled roster: Day shifts: 06:00 to 18:00 or 07:00 to 19:00. Night shifts: 18:00 to 06:00 or 19:00 to 07:00. Each shift includes two 30-minute breaks. Reasonable level of travel around the M25 network and between depots. Travel to meetings, training, and work sites outside the normal operational area. Expected to participate in out-of-hours call-out rotas (e.g., Winter Maintenance). What You’ll Be Doing Provide the initial response and arrange specialist advice at the scene of road-related incidents, hazards, and collisions, acting in a bronze incident command capacity and working safely in accordance with agreed CPS policies, method statements, and risk assessments to facilitate prompt hazard/incident clearance. Undertake activities, as instructed, to ensure that your area of responsibility is maintained. This will include, but is not limited to: Cyclical maintenance. Carriageway repairs. Soft estate maintenance (e.g., grass cutting). Street cleansing and litter picking. Sign maintenance. Safety fence repairs. Boundary fence repairs. Minor civil engineering or building tasks (e.g., headwall repair). Any other duties allocated by Line Managers. Implement traffic management in line with CPS policies, method statements, risk assessments, and industry standards. Provide accurate and legible written and verbal communication in the form of reports and records as required. Use mobile communication/data devices to accurately input data for record purposes to form reports and business records. Undertake routine vehicle checks and maintain accurate and up-to-date driving records in accordance with CPS procedures and legislation. Take due care of CPS property, including tablets, vehicles, and radios. Raise awareness of issues which may affect the safe operation of the network and report these as observed. Check that traffic management signs, equipment, and materials are carried on vehicles in line with the current maintenance checklist and are in working order; restock and report defects as appropriate.     About the RoleThe Structure Inspector will undertake civil, structural, and bridge condition inspections in line with inspection schedules and CPS policies, procedures, and guidance. These inspections will include General and Principal inspections. The post holder plays a key role in supporting the delivery of the Structures Inspections Programme. Working closely with the Inspections Lead and a team of Inspectors, the post holder ensures inspections are properly permitted, coordinated, and executed to the required standards. This role is essential for maintaining the quality and timeliness of inspection activities across the network and meeting CPS contractual requirements. What You’ll Be Doing Main Duties and Accountabilities Inspect and identify defects in structures of various forms and materials, in compliance with CS 450: Inspection of Highway Structures. Ensure all necessary briefings, health and safety documentation, and other provisions are in place prior to inspection activities. Monitor and update the inspection programme to reflect progress and changes. Liaise with the Logistics Manager and Senior Inspector to book road space and traffic management to facilitate inspections when required. Maintain attention to detail, ensuring inspection defect reporting meets quality and regulatory standards. Escalate, as appropriate, defects affecting safety, structural integrity, or public decency for further inspection or action so that urgent intervention can be undertaken. Carry out site supervision when required, ensuring work on site is completed in accordance with the brief. Keep accurate logs and records of all structure inspections. Operational Delivery Deliver constructive feedback to improve inspection quality and adherence to standards. Promote a culture of continuous improvement and professional development. Track supplier progress and ensure timely execution of inspection tasks. Conduct on-site inspections when required, ensuring compliance with current standards. Stakeholder Engagement Collaborate with internal teams across Asset and Project Delivery and Service Delivery. Maintain effective working relationships with external partners and stakeholders. Assist with configuring new systems used for collecting inspection data. Report monthly inspection KPIs. Who We’re Looking For A minimum of three years’ experience in highway inspection, construction, or a related civil engineering field at Inspector level. Certification (or working towards) under the Bridge Inspector Certification Scheme as an Inspector. Understanding of defects in concrete, steel, masonry, and other materials, including causes and implications. Knowledge of testing techniques and when/how to apply them. Knowledge of principal repair techniques for common structure types and materials. Strong judgement, attention to detail, ability to work to deadlines, communicate findings, and ensure compliance with legal and contractual requirements. A positive attitude and advanced understanding of health and safety legislation, risk management, and safe working practices. Full UK driving licence with a maximum of three penalty points. Proficiency with structure inspection tools and IT systems. Digital skills in Agile Assets, Confirm, and Microsoft packages. Experience in inspection programmes or infrastructure delivery. We are looking for a skilled Mechanical Maintenance Technician to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for ensuring the smooth operation of electrical systems, conducting routine inspections, diagnosing faults, and carrying out repairs and preventative maintenance and other M25 tunnels. If you are interested in a career in Highways, working on the M25 will provide you with unique experiences and challenges that no other project can offer. The position is based at our South Mimms offices; however, the role will involve travel to all tunnel locations across the M25 network and may require frequent work from the Holmesdale and Hatfield sites. What You’ll Be Doing Be conversant with the operation of all mechanical plant within the pump stations, OIW sites, and other M25 tunnels under normal and emergency conditions, and be capable of operating systems under local or remote control. Carry out planned maintenance and defect repair work on a range of mechanical equipment, including pumps, fans, and pipework. Complete all required records, including daily worksheets and maintenance report sheets. Read drawings and carry out fault-finding and repairs without supervision. Undertake all types of civil and mechanical maintenance work within the capacity of a Mechanical Technician, with or without direct supervision. Carry out manual, semi-skilled, or skilled work of any trade description (including “out of trade” work) under the instructions of the Maintenance Supervisor. Drive various vehicles as required, including those for maintenance purposes. Ensure all relevant Health & Safety requirements are met and safe working practices are adopted at all times. Ensure vehicles, plant, and equipment are available and maintained for safe operational use. Complete routine vehicle checks and drivers’ hours books in accordance with company procedures. Attend incidents and work safely in line with policies to facilitate the early clearance of hazards or incidents. Experience in routine maintenance and repairs to a wide range of equipment, including pumps and fans. Practical maintenance or servicing experience on mechanical plant. Ability to problem-solve and carry out fault-finding using maintenance manuals and drawings. All-round experience in welding, plumbing, and manufacturing items using workshop machinery. Knowledge of current Health & Safety legislation. G39 qualification for working in the vicinity of DNO equipment. Full UK driving licence (a van will be provided to commute between sites). Working Arrangements The role is Monday to Friday, days, with a requirement to work nights for three weeks per quarter to assist with tunnel maintenance closures. There is also a requirement to participate in an on-call rota for one week in three to cover call-outs. As a Technology Maintenance Engineer, you’ll work hands-on with cutting-edge roadside systems including: CCTV Emergency Roadside Telephones (ERT) MIDAS RCC NTIS SVD Traffic Signals Message Signs You’ll be responsible for ensuring these systems are maintained and repaired to the highest standards, in line with National Highways and Technology Services quality plans. In addition to your technical duties, you’ll provide first-line support to technicians — helping to develop their understanding of the network and offering practical guidance. Who We’re Looking For We’re seeking a motivated and technically skilled individual with the following qualifications and experience: HNC or BTEC Higher National Certificate in Electronics/Telecommunications Engineering (or equivalent), or at least five years’ experience working on motorway communications or closely related systems. NHSS8 Certified. Strong knowledge of National Highways communications infrastructure and standards. Experience with NMCS 2 Communications systems, including MIDAS, CCTV, VMS, ERTs, NTIS, HAWIS, and Traffic Signals. Good communication skills. Role Purpose: The role sits within the Engineering team in on the M25 DBFO undertaking a variety of Highway renewal designs. The position involves working on one of Europe’s busiest and most strategically important road networks. Your purpose: The role is responsible for developing, reviewing, and refining design packages consisting of drawings and works specification for various renewal schemes including (but not limited to) filter drains, network drainage, signage, fencing and VRS. You will be responsible for preparing documentation to discharge the duties of the CDM 2015 Principal Designer and creating specifications for works. You will be responsible for applying quality management processes and manage the quality of outputs, including adherence to standards and process compliance with the M25 DBFO Contract. You will be working directly with the technical specialist and commercial leads in the Engineering and other CPS teams to achieve agreed programmes and key milestones. Responsible for building strong relationships in a cross-functional collaborative team. Responsible for providing progress updates, programme management and reporting of assigned work. Accountable for the scheduling and chairing of performance, technical and commercial review meetings. Responsible for providing information to the commercial team to enable them to produce cost estimates. Candidates can apply even if they partially meet the requirements.
