    Principal / Associate Ecologist – Manchester - Hybrid An exciting opportunity to join a growing environmental consultancy with a strong ecological reputation in the North of England. Were looking for an experienced Principal or Associate Ecologist to play a key role in developing ecology services. This position offers a blend of technical leadership, project delivery and team development, working within a collaborative, multidisciplinary environment. The role - Principal / Associate Ecologist Youll lead and manage complex ecological projects from inception to completion, while supporting the growth of both client relationships and internal capability. Working closely with senior leadership and colleagues across planning, landscape and environmental disciplines, youll help shape and grow the ecology offering in the region. Key responsibilities Leading and delivering UKHab, protected species and botanical surveysProducing, reviewing and approving PEAs, EcIAs, BNG reports, HRAs and mitigation strategiesManaging projects, budgets, forecasting and invoicingMentoring and supporting consultants and graduatesBuilding and maintaining strong client relationshipsSupporting business development and work-winning activityLiaising confidently with LPAs and statutory bodies About you Degree qualified in ecology or a related disciplineCIEEM member (working towards or holding Chartership)Strong survey, reporting and project management experienceExperience leading projects and supporting team developmentGood understanding of UK planning and environmental legislationIdeally holds at least one protected species licenceFull UK driving licence Whats on offer 32 hours per weekHybrid and flexible workingSupportive, values-led cultureClear progression and autonomy Confidential applications and enquiries welcomed.     Salary: £38,000 – £47,000 + 4-day working week (full pay)
    An established environmental consultancy is seeking a Senior Ecologist to join its growing ecology team in Birmingham. This is an opportunity to play a leading role in delivering high-quality ecological work across planning, infrastructure and nature recovery projects, within a collaborative and people-focused environment. The organisation is known for its progressive approach, strong technical standards and commitment to sustainable working practices. Senior ecologists are trusted to lead, influence and apply professional judgement, rather than simply deliver to process. The Role You will take a key role in leading ecological projects, managing client relationships and supporting the development of the wider ecology team. The position offers a varied workload and the opportunity to work closely with other environmental disciplines. Key responsibilities include: Project management and client liaison Delivery of Preliminary Ecology Appraisals and Ecological Impact Assessments Habitats Regulations Assessments Biodiversity Net Gain assessments Protected species surveys, reporting and licensing support Design of mitigation and enhancement strategies Scoping, planning and leading ecological surveys Mentoring and supporting consultants and assistants Contributing to business development and securing new work
    About You Degree (or higher) in ecology, biological sciences or a related discipline Strong understanding of UK ecological legislation and planning policyExcellent survey skills, including UK Habitat Classification and specialist species surveysExperience liaising with clients, statutory bodies and local planning authorities Strong written and verbal communication skills Proven ability to manage projects, budgets and deadlines A collaborative, values-led approach to working Full UK driving licence
