Plant & Vehicle Fitter
We currently have an exciting opportunity for a skilled technician with broad experience of plant and vehicle maintenance and repair, to apply their practice here in our unique work setting as part of our dynamic Facilities Management team.
Routine plant maintenance and repair is conducted here on site, managed by the Plant & Vehicle Fitter. Plant maintenance and repair (e.g. excavators, tractors) will be the primary focus, but you will also work with a small fleet of vehicles, trailers and plant machinery (e.g. chainsaws, generators, mowers). Knowledge of ageing machinery would be an advantage, and being self-motivated and comfortable working both on your own and as part of a large team, is key.
Our Plant & Vehicle Technician will provide technical expertise needed to plan, oversee and carry out the maintenance. Core duties will include:Oversee and plan the annual maintenance and upkeep of small fleet of plant, vehicles and trailers, as well as a variety of plant machinery such as chainsaws, generators and mowers.Provide the technical expertise performing routine maintenance (oil changes, brake repairs, etc.), diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, and hydraulic problems on various plant and vehicles.Conduct thorough inspections to identify potential issues and ensure plant, vehicles and machinery are safe, roadworthy and compliant.Identify and resolve complex mechanical issues, using diagnostic tools and systems.Replace or repair defective parts on plant, vehicles and machinery.Carry out tests and checks in preparation for MOT’s.Maintain a due diligence in terms of your own personal health and safety and for those around you.Maintain the standards of the team and strive to improve within your capability.Achieve personal targets and make efficient use of time and material resources.Be part of the team and contribute proactively within your capabilities.
The Package Hours of work are 40 per week, working predominantly 07:30 16:10, Monday to Friday, and working rostered weekends to support the operations of the Zoo.Permanent contractSalary from £35,497 per annum (pro-rata)33 days annual leave per calendar year (pro-rata)Staff pass so you can visit the zoo during your time off plus a number of complimentary tickets for your family and friendsAccess to emergency assistance programme (EAP)Discounted gym membershipDiscounts on cinema tickets, restaurants, high street shops and more via PerksPension scheme with generous employer contributions up to 9%Our Requirements Ability to plan, coordinate and repair a wide range of fleet and machinery.Broad technical knowledge of mechanical principles for vehicle and plant, machinery, systems, components, and maintenance procedures.Knowledge of legislative requirements with regards to Mechanical upkeep of vehicle and plant.Knowledge of legislative requirements with regards to LOLER & PUWER.Experience in repairing small plant such as chainsaws, generators and mowers etc.Fabrication, vehicle electrical and welding knowledge would be beneficial but not crucial.To have the ability to solve problems and adhere to H&S guidelines.To be self-motivated, resourceful, flexible and have a willingness to learn.Communicate effectively with customers regarding repairs and maintenance statuses.Capable of working as part of a team.Be courteous and respectful within a busy, public facing organisation.Have good communication skills.
