  • Senior Software Engineer

    - edinburgh

A mission-driven scale-up in Edinburgh is looking for a Senior Software Engineer (with strong experience in ReactJS or Python ) to join their hybrid team. This is a great opportunity to work on meaningful, real-world products that help tackle one of the biggest challenges of our time: climate change .
They’re building technology for a more sustainable future - You’ll be building and improving platforms that are used in real-time by thousands of people across the UK—and potentially even by yourself (if not already!).
You’ll be joining a small, high-calibre team working across a modern stack—ReactJS, Python, Postgres, AWS, Terraform, Kafka (and more)—with plenty of say in both what gets built and how it’s built. There’s no heavy hierarchy or endless red tape here—engineers are trusted to own problems end-to-end).
While most engineers here work across the full stack , there’s flexibility depending on where your strengths lie. Whether you’re more frontend or backend-focused, they care far more about curiosity, collaboration, and the drive to pick things up when needed. They’re also big on clean, scalable systems —so experience working in environments that value quality and best practices will go a long way.
What they’re hoping you’ll bring: Strong commercial experience with ReactJS and/or Python (bonus points for both) Experience with cloud services (ideally AWS, but Azure or GCP are fine too) A solid approach to software testing—there’s no separate QA team A product mindset—you’re curious, collaborative, and take ownership
Bonus points for: Cloud-native tools like Docker, Terraform, or strong CI/CD knowledge Previous experience in a startup or scale-up Technical leadership or experience driving projects
Their new offices are based in central Edinburgh , and they support hybrid working —you’ll typically be in the office three days a week , but there’s some flexibility around that. They're also open to relocators and can sponsor visas for the right person.
Salary-wise, they’re open to a wide range—from £50k up to £100k , depending on experience—with share options and a solid benefits package to match. But most importantly, this is a chance to work on something that genuinely matters—helping to accelerate decarbonisation in a tangible, measurable way.
If you’re curious, feel free to drop Doug Paget a message on LinkedIn, or send across your CV for an informal chat.

  • Software Engineer

    Software Engineer Hybrid - Newcastle

A well-established Tech Consultancy based in Newcastle are on the lookout for a couple of skilled Senior Software Engineers (ideally with experience using Java and Angular ) to join several of their Agile squads. They’re offering the opportunity to work with a really modern tech stack, where you will be building really scalable greenfield solutions in a really fun and flexible work environment.

They’ve got a really busy pipeline of projects, really strong relationships with their long list of clients which spirals across multiple sectors (Fintech, Renewables, Oil & Gas, Public + many more!). It’s a really unique environment where Engineers can have a lot of choice in what projects they want to join and tech they want to work with – this is highlighted with the tenure of many of their team, as many have been with the business for 5-10 years (it’s really uncommon for someone to have a short-stint here!).

Presently, they’ve got a couple requirements to join one of their Agile squads where you’ll be working on a core project for one of their key clients using Java and Angular – so are ideally looking for Engineers that feel comfortable with these technologies. However, generally the organisation are pretty tech agnostic and it’s a great environment for learning different technologies. They also using Python, .Net, TypeScript and are big users of Cloud Services (both AWS and Azure) – so there is plenty of technologies to learn here.

You’ll be joining a squad of circa 4-6 Engineers (depending on the project) and usually you’ll be with the project from its initial design straight through to its completion – so you’ll really pick up good exposure to working on large-scale projects . The teams are also really well defined as each will usually have a Project Lead, Software Architect, Front-End, Back-End or Full Stack Engineers, UX Specialists, Automation Engineers and DevOps Engineers.

What separates them from other consultancies is you’ll never be offshored to their client , you’ll work within the business at all times (either onsite or at home). They also have a pretty strict no-overtime policy , as they’re massive on finding the right work-to-life balance – so fortunately no really tight-deadlines or working late into the night. On top of this, they offer really flexible working – they’re a family first organisation so the school drop off / pick up or even mid-day nursery appointments are all fine here. Not to mention, the company run multiple events from guest speakers to even weekly lunch treats for the team!

Their office is based in central Newcastle , where it’s really accessible by public transport links. They ideally hope people can pop into the offices once a week for SPRINTS / Meetings / Tech events etc but are pretty flex with this.

They offer a competitive salary for this role (more than happy to discuss figures before submitting an application). This is on-top of a fairly competitive benefits package which includes an annual training allowance, good pension, loyal rewarding holiday scheme + many more.

If you match most of the criteria, please do apply or feel free to reach out to Molly Candlish at Cathcart Technology to find out more.

  • An innovative tech-for-good company in the UK are on a mission to grow their engineering hub in Edinburgh, as they look to bring in an experienced SDIT to their hybrid team. They’ve been helping hundreds of thousands of people live more independently – and now they’re investing big in automation, AI, and cloud tech to take things to the next level.
They’ve got offices in London, Bristol, and now Edinburgh – where they’re building out a team of forward-thinking Software Engineers in Test. These roles are part of a wider shift from manual to automated testing, and it’s a brilliant time to join as they ramp things up.
    The role:
You’ll work closely with engineers, product managers, and fellow SETs to deliver high-quality products. You'll be writing automated tests for web and API layers (using Playwright or Cypress, and Postman or SOAPUi), and collaborating to improve quality across the board.
There’s loads of opportunity here to get involved in new tooling, shape testing practices, and take real ownership of your work. You’ll have the support of senior SETs, but plenty of space to make your mark.
    What they’re looking for:
A couple of years' experience in test automation. Some exposure to API testing. A strong eye for detail and quality. Someone who enjoys working collaboratively with engineers and product teams. Open to learning new tools and tech. Solid communicator – you’ll be working closely with others every day.
    Bonus points for:
Any coding knowledge (JavaScript, Java, SQL, etc.). Experience in a product-led or agile environment. An interest in tech-for-good or inclusive tech.
You’ll be in the Edinburgh office 3 days a week (flexible which ones), and you’ll travel to Bristol or London every couple of months to catch up with the wider crew – fully paid, of course.
In return, they’re able to offer a salary of between £40-55k, as well as a strong benefits package which includes a non-contributory pension of 15%, 28 days holiday, personal development and learning support, and more!
This is a genuinely rewarding opportunity with a growing organisation that’s all about making a difference with technology. You'll be part of a team that values innovation, inclusion, and customer-first thinking.
If this sounds like something you’d love to be involved in, please apply below or get in touch with Lewis at Cathcart Technology.
