About the Role
The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of relevant design standards and guidelines, be actively involved in fee proposals and project management, and ensure projects are delivered on time and within budget. Requirements
Minimum 5 years' experience in a UK consultancy, working on diverse drainage design projects across various project stages.
Proficiency in AutoCAD, Civil 3D, Site 3D, and InfoDrainage (or equivalent software).
Strong knowledge of drainage design standards, guidelines, and processes.
Experience using Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
Ability to manage multiple projects of varying scales simultaneously.
Excellent communication skills, capable of engaging professionally with clients, contractors, and design teams.
Strong writing skills, with experience preparing Flood Risk Assessments (FRAs), Drainage Strategies, and technical reports.
Understanding of multi-disciplinary projects from planning through to completion.
Chartered or working towards chartership (preferred but not essential).
Technical Experience
Expertise in drainage design for civil engineering projects, including SuDS implementation.
Liaising with planning authorities, Lead Local Flood Authorities (LLFAs), statutory undertakers, and national bodies like the Environment Agency.
Experience attending client meetings and engaging with key stakeholders.
Preparing Section 104, 106, and 185 drainage designs and applications.
Knowledge of DMRB, Sewerage Sector Guidance, Building Regulations, CIRIA Guidance, and Local Authority drainage standards.
Detailed on-plot drainage design (surface and foul water) for residential, commercial, and industrial projects.
Highway drainage design expertise.
Modelling SuDS features (e.g., ponds, basins, tanks, rain gardens, swales).
Involvement in the tender process and construction phase, responding to contractor queries and RFIs.
Desirable Skills (Not Essential)
Candidates with additional experience in highway design would be highly valued. This includes:
Section 278 / 38 highway designs following DMRB and Local Authority standards.
