    Main duties of the job To provide with Consultant colleagues (as appropriate) a service in the speciality to the hospitals so designated, with responsibility for the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of illness and promotion of health. To have continuing responsibility for the care of patients in your charge (as appropriate) in liaison with Consultant colleagues and for the proper functioning of the department in line with the Operational Policy and Strategic Plan (as amended from time to time). To be responsible for the professional supervision and management of junior medical / dental staff. If appropriate the post holder will be named in the contracts of junior staff as the person responsible for overseeing their training and as an initial source of advice to such doctors regarding their careers. To participate in continuing medical education in ways which are acceptable to the Chief Executive. The UHB supports the requirements for continuing professional development and is committed to providing time and financial support for these activities in line with the UHB Policy. To participate in and contribute to Clinical Audit in line with the Health Board's policy on the implementation of Clinical Governance. The successful candidate will participate in a 24/7 resident critical care consultant rota covering UHW and UHL. Person Specification Qualifications Essential Full GMC / GDC registration with a licence to practise On Specialist Register for Intensive Care Medicine and Anaesthesia / Specialty Registrar with CCT / CESR (Combined Programme) due within 6 months of interview date Postgraduate ICM qualification e.g. FICM, DICM, EDIC or equivalent Postgraduate qualification in Anaesthesia e.g. FRCA Desirable Echocardiography qualifications e.g. FICE, BSE accreditation Ultrasound qualification (CUSIC competent) Experience Essential Broad experience in adult critical care Experience of working in specialty critical care e.g. neurosurgery, trauma Familiarity with inter-hospital transfer of critically ill patients Familiarity of ultrasound and/or Echo Broad training and experience in Anaesthesia Desirable Experience with regional anaesthesia Skills Essential Evidence of effective team and multidisciplinary working Effective IT (computer) skills Self-motivated and flexible approach to work Clinical Governance Essential Evidence of participation in clinical audit and understanding role of audit in improving medical practice Understanding of clinical risk management and clinical governance Evidence of proactive engagement with appraisal and revalidation Research Essential Evidence of active research interests Ability to critically appraise research Commitment to assist in the directorate's Research Strategy Teaching Essential Evidence of teaching medical / dental students and junior doctors / dentists Management Essential Commitment to participating in and understanding of the management process Evidence of effective leadership skills Any attachments will be accessible after you click to apply. 001-MP100.26 #J-18808-Ljbffr Read Less
