The CNN London BureauMTO team focuses on the broadcast and IT technology needs of our CNN partners for newsgathering, programming and digital.ResponsibilitiesProvides expert operational support for broadcast and IT systems in a live, high-pressure newsenvironment, ensuring reliability and performance across critical infrastructure.Work flexible shift patterns, including late finishes and weekends, adapting to the demands of a 24/7 news operation and maintaining readiness during peak production hours.During major technical incidents and breaking news, take the initiative to delegate tasks effectively, ensuring swift resolution and minimal disruption.Proactively lead projects focused on resolving technical issues, renewing equipment, and expandinginfrastructure, while thoroughly documenting each stage of development. Here you are supported, here you are celebrated, here you can thrive.WBD Global Field Engineering...The Global Field Engineering (GFE) team are a dynamic and highly skilled group of broadcast engineers, who are tasked with managing and deploying a wide array of technical equipment used to deliver live Sports and News television broadcasts for Warner Bros. Discovery networks, at remote locations around the world including TNT Sports, Eurosport, and CNN.
    Based across the USA, UK, UAE, & Hong Kong, the team deliver seamless broadcast operations, often working in fast-paced, demanding environments.

    Just this year, the growing London based team have brought, European, Premier League and FA Cup football, The French Open at Roland Garros, Ultimate Cycling and US-based REMI operations for NHL, MLB, MLS, and NASCAR to sports fans internationally, with plans to deliver the Milano Cortina Winter Olympics, Snooker, UFC as well as many others.

    Additionally, the team supports the CNN network, providing real time coverage across a range of breaking news events across the world, including the Davos WEF in Switzerland, the Presidential Inauguration in Washington DC, the Papal funeral in Rome, NATO meetings in the Netherlands, news shows in Ukraine and a Presidential state visit to the UK. The team also supports with on the ground news coverage across fast moving news cycles, with plans to cover New Years Eve news specials as London venues.Your New Role...Associate Field Engineers will be tasked primarily with setting up and operating networked IP-based TV production and contribution systems, alongside traditional audio, video, fibre and RF equipment; to support live television News and Sports operations at remote locations, worldwide. Support for local computer equipment and network connectivity equipment used by our clients on site is also included.When not working in the field, our engineers work on all aspects of planning, safety and technical preparations for upcoming field operations. They also perform quality control and maintenance on the field equipment hardware and software at our London engineering base when returning from trips.Associate Live Production Broadcast Field Engineers will also participate with our engineering teams in technology design, installation, and integration projects with complex, leading-edge technology in an increasingly broadcast IP and IT centric environment.Associate level engineers will have a demonstrated competency in a wide variety of technologies, including baseline knowledge of analysing and solving complex technical problems.This role will be split between the Old Street and Chiswick offices, as well as requiring regular travel (both local and international), sometimes with short notice. The ability to physically lift and move equipment is also necessary.Your Role Accountabilities...Perform 24x7x365 broadcast technical support as part of our engineering team, to include installation, maintenance and troubleshooting/repair of sophisticated IP network, audio, video and related remote broadcast television production and IT equipment.Perform local in-shop maintenance and repair: maintain and support field engineering equipment and field production crew gear, with processes guided and managed by our ITSM-based ticketing system.Participate with our engineering team on technology design, installation, and integration projects with complex, leading-edge technology in an increasingly broadcast IP and IT centric environment. Receive, inventory, and QC the field equipment, to ensure readiness for deployments and sufficient inventory of parts and technology supplies. With processes guided and managed by our online asset management system.Work closely with our production clients through all stages of our planning stages and during field operations, to ensure deliverables fall within the applicable scope and budget for their requests. Serve as liaison between engineering management, staff, and customers.Document quality standards, system anomalies, operational procedures, reference materials, and project work using our online systems.Use of AutoCAD, Miro and Visio for system drawings documentation.Training to support the developing Associate role and on new equipment or systems as they are adopted for use on our live productions.Qualifications & Experiences...A technical degree is desirable, preferably in Communications Engineering, Broadcast Technology and Engineering, Computer Science or Electronics Engineering (or equivalent education/experience/training).Demonstrated knowledge of computer and data networking hardware, software and applications, to ensure broad technical support in the field. For example: various computer operating systems and digital media applications, TCP/IP troubleshooting tools and techniques for Wan and LAN, networking hardware devices and their management tools, fibre optic links, service providers’ data circuits and their SLA’s.Typically, one or more years of experience in Television broadcast engineering, including quality control techniques, operations, troubleshooting and maintenance on broadcast production equipment such as: Studio A/V production systems, video encoding and streaming devices, production Intercom, ENG/Studio cameras, A/V routers and glue, media decks, video switchers, audio mixers & related equipment, fiber optic links, RF/satellite transmission systems, NLE edit systems and media file ingest/storage systems.Knowledge of modern TV and IT standards with an understanding of how they support our work.Basic operational skills on a range of television remote broadcast and production equipment such as: IP Codecs and transmission, IT networks architecture, ENG/Studio camera equipment, A/V routers and infrastructure glue, video switchers, audio mixers, media decks, NLE systems and storage devices, fiber optic links, SNG systems, signal processing and transcoding devices, production communications (intercom) and computer systems.IT / networking certification or similar.UK Manual Driving licence, ideally with Class C1 HGV.Experience with MS Office Applications (Outlook, Word, Excel, Visio, etc.).Onsite Working - This role is advertised as Onsite, meaning all working hours and days (regardless of shift pattern) will be carried out at the place of work.
