This position is within the New Categories Marketing Department and reports to the Head of CMF, within the Design organization led by the Head of Design. The job holder will be part of a team collectively responsible for the design of devices and accessories and will be working closely within the team, and with brand, insights and R&D teams responsible for the delivery of new product development. Key objectives are: Drive CMF development on projects from concept to production, ensuring quality CMF execution. Drive Trend and CMF leadership within the team by consolidating and sharing trend insights, and by building up the CMF sample libraries. Co-drive the CMF strategy, own the CMF roadmap and development for all our product lines and accessories in line with our strategic objectives. Developing technical leadership on CMF, including on sustainability. Create compelling and hi-quality visuals to aid communication and development. Ability to build strong partnerships with product designers, engineers, and brand. Driving internal alignment with partners of the design projects. Building a network with external suppliers and CMF agencies. Your key responsibilities will include: Responsible for all CMF outputs for one category including design presentation, concept development, appearance model and prototypes, CMF and design verification. Explore, research, analyze and deliver reports on key Design and CMF trends. Develop compelling narratives that provide a solid rationale for CMF strategy and concepts. Deliver rich, upgraded aesthetics in concepts and designs through CMF leadership. Lead CMF development on multiple design projects concurrently, from early concept development to final production, ensuring quality execution. Partner closely with product designers, engineers and suppliers on CMF, throughout the design process ensuring successful implementation. Develop a collaborative partnership approach with partners to detailed blend aesthetic and functional design considerations in support of the brand strategies and ensure this is maintained through production to launch. Develop and manage the CMF library and palette to communicate internally and externally with suppliers. What are we looking for? Experience Required Significant international experience with Trend and CMF design and development of modern digital and electronic products, and fully confident with the technologies and manufacturing processes which support them. Deep understanding of Materials, processes and finishing and Sustainability. Experience in all phases of the design process, from concept to manufacture through to launch. Solid experience in creating and leading CMF design in manufacturing Design research experience determining design and market trends. CMF strategy development. Trend analysis and creating compelling stories to back up proposals. Must have strong project portfolio to demonstrate experience and design skills Technical / Functional / Leadership Skills Required Ability to build hi quality visualizations. Critical thinking, researching and analyzing trends, brand, target customers and propositions to develop successful CMF strategies and solutions. Technical knowledge in plastics, metals, coatings, soft goods. Excellent collaboration skills with fellow designers and project teams, as well as demonstrating trend and CMF thought leadership towards key partners. Project management skills. Knowledge of 2D, 3D Design tools (Adobe, Keyshot). Education / Qualifications / Certifications Required Bachelor’s or master’s Degree qualification in a relevant design area, such as industrial design, fashion design, textile design and a strong relevant industry experience. In turn this means that sustainability disclosures and communications are also becoming more important and now need to be treated with similar difficulty as our financial disclosures. The proliferation and complexity of new regulation in this area, driven by the EU, US and UK regulators, introduces significant uncertainty and challenges for our sustainability reporting and disclosures. To pro-actively address this, BAT has implemented a “CSRD Programme” to meet the requirements imposed by the sustainability reporting requirements, mainly in the EU. These are the most onerous global regulations, will cover most the requirements of other jurisdictions and will affect BAT before those in other jurisdictions. While there are significant reputational, regulatory and litigation risks for non-compliance, there are also opportunities for BAT to lead and to showcase its achievements! Reward Project Lead is to drive Reward data evidence work for pay related disclosures in CSRD across the globe and ensure at the least compliance level data availability. Your key responsibilities will include: Leading data collection process for the purposes of the project across BAT markets, working closely with CSRD Reward coordinator, to ensure timely delivery of reward metrics according to the project requirements and timelines for the whole Group Leading the review and audit of reward metrics (. ensuring full and accurate group population is in scope, validating if analysis results are consistent with outcomes from previous years / other analysis, etc). This is an excellent opportunity for a professional to join an FMCG FTSE 100 company, looking to support the business program to shape product safety approaches for the rapidly growing BAT product portfolio. The purpose of the role is to lead the toxicological ingredient and material evaluations of BAT products in accordance with guidelines from the Product Stewardship Council (PSC) in line with the R&D Policy Framework, Corporate Positions, and specific legislation for our product categories. The role will deliver toxicological programs that can unlock novel products and ingredients commercially, while supporting the communication of our science to help position BAT as industry experts whilst achieving desired business growth. What is the direct impact of this role on the team or organization? The role will be the key contact to organize the toxicological assessment of novel ingredients, materials and technologies to be used in the development of products. They will direct the work of evaluators delivering desk based toxicological evaluations in accordance with Internal BAT guidelines and the R&D policy framework in order to support BATs portfolio. Toxicological evaluations will be carried out to support all stages of product development. This role encompasses strategic scope, with the delivery and communication of toxicological data packages for the identified ingredients and products across categories. The role will require new processes to be created to streamline evaluations and will require formalization of processes through robust documentation. Work will be conducted under the guidance of the Toxicology team manager, Senior Scientist, and other team members to overcome challenging assessments, outlining data requirements/gaps to build robust safety evaluations of products. Role holder will be responsible for own and others’ workload management and communicating with stakeholders (line managers and Project teams) on progress to achieve business milestones. Your key responsibilities will include: Be a knowledgeable and enabling partner to the project teams, guiding them on the toxicology evaluations, tests and design needed to build the data packages from early-stage sensory testing of prototypes to commercial launch. Author, review and sign off risk assessments as part of the toxicological evaluation of new ingredients, technologies, and materials. Support the development of strategies for toxicological evaluation of platform products, whilst challenging existing processes to identify and improve ways of working across the department with the endorsement of the Product Stewardship Council (PSC). Apply appropriate solutions or approaches to identify and resolve problems based on an understanding and experience of biology, toxicology, or chemistry. Oversee the planning and execution of risk assessments, working collaboratively within the team to deliver on time and in full for the business. Provide training and coaching to junior members of the team and the wider business. Maintain and build effective working relationships with internal stakeholders, suppliers, and designated contacts within BAT. Can this be your future role? British American Tobacco UK has an exciting opportunity for an UNDERGRADUATE INTERN – Sensory Insights in Southampton – Fixed-term (12 months) We have an exciting opportunity for students who are currently undertaking a degree inpsychology, applied mathematics, food technology or marketing (or a related subject) to join our Research & Development function, based in Southampton, on a 12-month undergraduate placement. This placement is with our Sensory Insights Team and will focus on Managing a specific project that aims to contribute towards our transformation journey. Our ambition in Sensory Insights is to transform sensory into a capability enabling successful consumer experiences. The team therefore designs testing approaches using the right methods and panels to answer various business questions, project objectives and to build an understanding of how to drive consumer experiences. The team also analyzes and interprets the sensory data to drive actionable insights. A bit more about BAT and our undergraduate placement scheme: We make significant investments in Research and Development to deliver innovations that satisfy or anticipate consumer needs and generate growth for the business. We conduct cutting-edge research to evaluate our Potentially Reduced Risk Products (PRRPs) and apply the highest standards for product safety and quality. Successful applicants will be involved in our extensive scientific research program which spans a broad spectrum of scientific fields - including molecular biology, human biology, toxicology, chemistry, biomedical sciences, psychology, neuroscience, sensorial science, data science, computer science, product design, and engineering disciplines. In the UK, we offer 12-months placement opportunities (starting on 1st September 2025) to undergraduate students looking to gain practical experience within a vibrant and innovative industrial setting. As part of the scheme, you will be partnered with a mentor, have regular reviews with your Line Manager and work on projects that impact the business. BAT has an established placement programme, with a dedicated Placement Team, which provides training and development throughout the placement. This includes sessions for onboarding, presentation skills, critical thinking, scientific poster presentations and ‘speed networking’ with senior management. Successful applicants are provided with multiple opportunities to develop transferable skills in addition to gaining ‘hands on’ experience in a technical discipline. As part of the scheme students get a chance to cultivate their independent thinking and problem-solving skills in addition to working in and contributing to a team. Cross functional/department working and participation in other research activities is also encouraged, where appropriate. Previous work experience in a practical ‘hands-on’ role would be useful but not essential. This role is due to start in September 2025, and we will be shortlisting applications and carrying out video/ online interviews whilst the advert is live. We will look to make an offer to the successful candidate as close to the closing date as possible. However, the vetting and onboarding processes for successful candidates won’t begin until the role is opened in our system, which is likely to be later in 2025, so we will contact successful candidates again to commence these processes when the position opens. Your key responsibilities will include: Scoping, planning and executing a project related to the development of a new sensory methodology to test products within the Wellness and Stimulation category. Validating the methodology to ensure that it is fit for purpose and that it delivers data and insights to drive decisions. Collaborating across functions and working with key stakeholders to drive the project forward. Ensuring the data quality through checks and assessments Providing high quality presentations on the project scope, progress made, challenges and outputs. Writing reports on the method outputs, issuing recommendations, and discussing next steps and future application. What are we looking for?
