We are seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Assistant Rent Accountant to provide rent accounting and management support to Bidwells Rural Estate Management team. In this new role, you will play a key part in delivering managing agent services across a significant and diverse rural estate portfolio, ensuring rent income, tenant payments and expenditure are processed accurately, efficiently and in line with contractual requirements. This position is central to effective financial reporting and high-quality service delivery, working closely with the Senior Rent Accountant and wider estate management teams. This is an incredible opportunity to contribute to the management of a large and diverse rural estate portfolio, spanning tens of thousands of acres across multiple locations. The work goes beyond core financial administration, contributing to the successful day-to-day management of the estate, building strong relationships with tenants, communities and stakeholders and supporting the long-term stewardship of rural assets. This role will be based in our Inverness office. What youll be doing Preparing and issuing accurate rent demands in line with agreed timetables Processing tenant receipts, managing allocations and completing regular bank reconciliations Maintaining accurate financial and property records within the property management system whilst updating data in line with lease events Supporting arrears management, including reporting, payment plans and related correspondence Assisting with monthly financial reporting, including rent rolls, aged debtors and income summaries Supporting purchase-to-pay processes, including supplier setup, invoice processing and payment in line with policies and delegated authority levels Assisting with VAT, CIS and wider compliance requirements Supporting the co-ordination of lease events and statutory compliance activities (e.g. EICRs, gas safety, insurance), ensuring records are accurate and up to date Monitoring supplier performance, payment activity and compliance with financial controls, KPIs and audit requirements Providing support during audits, including preparation of documentation and supporting schedules Responding to tenant, supplier and internal queries in a professional and timely manner Collaborating with surveyors, managing agents and finance teams to support effective estate management and reporting Ensuring adherence to data protection, confidentiality and record-keeping standards About You Essential Previous experience in an accounting, rent administration or finance support role Strong numerical ability with a high level of accuracy and attention to detail Confident IT skills, including experience using Microsoft Office applications such as Excel and financial or property management systems Well-organised and methodical, with the ability to prioritise tasks and manage multiple deadlines effectively Strong written and verbal communication skills, with a professional and proactive approach Desirable Experience within a property, estate management or managing agent environment Exposure to rent accounting, service charges or public sector finance Currently studying towards, or an interest in pursuing an accounting qualification Why Bidwells?
