    Night Porter

    £25,396.80 per annum + monthly service charge payment

    The Place

    Barnett Hill Hotel is a member of the Alexander Hotels family joining the Group in September 2016.

    Barnett Hill is a beautiful Queen Anne style property, built in 1905, set within 26 acres of lovingly maintained gardens and woodlands, sitting in the heart of the Surrey Hill area of outstanding natural beauty just outside Guildford, Surrey. This idyllic location is 15 minutes from Guildford town and 45 mins from Central London.

    Exciting refurbishment and redevelopment plans have been completed which have transformed this venue into a beautiful Country House Hotel. The Hotel including all bedrooms have been completely refurbished and updated with work recently having been completed on the Mews building to increase the number of bedrooms to 56 in total. Our first AA inspection has resulted in 4 Stars for the Hotel and 2 Rosettes for dining being awarded, so we are well on the way!

    The Role

    We are seeking a full time Night Porter to complete our team, helping to ensure excellent standards of guest care from 10.30pm until 7am, 5 days per week.

    Working under the direction of the Night Services Supervisor with responsibility for fire safety, security, hotel reception and guest care during their shift. This is a responsible role requiring someone with a mature head and excellent customer service, communication and organisation skills with energy to deliver service throughout the night in a friendly professional manner.

    Duties include;

    • Security and safety of the premises
    • General hotel reception duties including; checking in and checking out guests, switchboard duties and out of hours reservations enquiries
    • On request service of light refreshments and beverages and bar drinks to resident guests after the bar/kitchen has closed
    • Assist with conference room setup and service ensuring all rooms are well presented for the morning shift
    • Assist with the restaurant setup when required so it is fully prepared and presentable for Breakfast guests
    • Ensure the public areas are clean and tidy ready for the start of the day
    • To be the person responsible for fire safety and implementing fire evacuation procedures if ever required during the night adhering to the Hotels Fire Evacuation Plan
    • Action or report any health and safety issues found during the security rounds to the Duty Manager/Maintenance Manager
    • Carry out minor maintenance tasks during the night eg replacement of light bulbs in public areas

    Requirements

    • Working 5 nights, 40 hrs per week from 10.30pm to 7am including weekend shifts
    • Smart appearance
    • Excellent communication and customer service skills
    • Energy and enthusiasm for customer service
    • Computer literacy (training will be given on our systems)
    • A mature and responsible approach to managing the hotel overnight
    • Able to provide two excellent work references, including most recent employer

    The Role

    Reporting to the Head Chef, with responsibility for all aspects of food production from sourcing suppliers to delivering customer excellence in the finished dish.

    Creating a restaurant menu to inspire local patrons, an afternoon tea menu that encourages loyal local business will all be on the to do list of the new Head Chef.

    You will be responsible for;

    • Recruitment, training, and coaching team of 6 Chefs and 3 Kitchen Porters – adding to your team as the business grows.
    • The menu planning, supplier resourcing, ordering, delivery, storage, preparation, cooking and service across the range of food areas within the Hotel
    • Development of menu ideas to progress the food offering to achieve rosette standards across all areas of service, restaurant, banqueting, afternoon tea, corporate functions.
    • Ensure compliance with HACCP and food hygiene, health, and safety legislation.
    • Achieving gross profit targets on dishes to allow for future investment in the facilities and staffing.
    • Creating passion, flair, and drive in your team to assist the hotel to achieve its quality and business objectives. Practice and promote effective teamwork and communication amongst your direct work colleagues and colleagues in other departments.
    • Menus across the business. The business is varied offering catering to Hotel Guests, In-house Conference Delegates, as well as guests from the local area. Barnett Hill is a popular wedding venue with weddings taking place in the 2 wedding suites.

    Requirements

    • Experience of developing a quality hotel restaurant to 2 rosettes standard and beyond
    • Proven record of team selection and retention that supports the development of excellent standards.
    • Demonstrate during a cooking trial the practical ability and flair that will be required to drive and motivate others on the team to achieve.
    • Demonstrate ideas of how the food offering can be developed and standards improved when being interviewed.
    • Hold the experience to manage the multi menu requirements and busy banqueting operation.
    • Live locally or can relocate to the area with own transportation.

    THE ROLE

    Seeking an energetic worker, with a good eye for detail to ensure excellent standards of cleanliness in guest bedrooms and bathrooms.

    Weekday and weekend shifts with flexible start times available

    Duties include;

    • Cleaning of guest bedrooms; stripping and changing bedlinen daily, cleaning, dusting, polishing & vacuuming
    • Resetting of hospitality trays and guest information packs
    • Corridor cleaning
    • Stocking of linen for the following day
    • Assisting with public area cleaning when required

    REQUIREMENTS

    Enthusiastic and energetic about cleaning and presentation

    Methodical in working routines

    Ability to work flexible shifts, week days and weekends
