You'll be responsible for delivering against KPIs, improving fleet availability, and contributing to business-wide improvement strategies.Key ResponsibilitiesEngineering OperationsLead all engineering and maintenance activities, ensuring delivery of performance and service targetsMaintain fleet reliability, safety, and legal compliance to the highest standardsLeadership & Team DevelopmentInspire, lead, and develop a multidisciplinary team including engineers, team leaders, apprentices, storekeepers, and admin staffManage workforce planning, shift allocation, and staff development to build a high-performing teamFinancial ManagementOversee depot-level P&L, budgeting, and forecastingDrive cost efficiency and reduce lost mileage through proactive planning and resource managementHealth, Safety & ComplianceEnsure compliance with all health, safety, environmental, and O-Licence regulationsConduct regular audits and maintain rigorous safety practices across the depotTraining & DevelopmentImplement and deliver technical training programsEnsure all audit trails and compliance documentation meet legal and corporate standardsContinuous ImprovementDrive lean methodologies and operational improvementsIdentify and act on opportunities to boost productivity and reduce wasteCustomer Service & Fleet AvailabilityEnsure vehicle availability consistently meets or exceeds peak service demandMonitor breakdown trends and implement effective corrective action plansReporting & AnalysisDeliver accurate, timely operational reports (daily, weekly, period-end)Track depot performance against key KPIs and provide data-driven insightsTalent & RecruitmentLead recruitment and onboarding for depot engineering rolesEmbed a strong performance culture through coaching, mentoring, and performance managementWhat You’ll BringA strong background in engineering, ideally within the bus or HGV sectorProven experience in leading technical teams within a dynamic operational environmentDeep understanding of fleet management, maintenance planning, and workshop operationsStrong financial and commercial awareness, including P&L responsibilityExcellent leadership, organisational, and communication skillsIn-depth knowledge of health, safety, and regulatory frameworksA proactive mindset with a commitment to continuous improvement and innovationAdditional InformationThis job description outlines the core responsibilities of the Engineering Manager role.
