    About the RoleOur dynamic, customer facing Independent Nuclear Assurance (INA) team provides independent safety assessment and advice in support of both in-service and future designs of Naval Reactor Plant (NRP). The team has detailed knowledge and extensive experience of naval nuclear safety cases and works collaboratively with MoD’s Nuclear Propulsion Delivery Team (NPDT) and their Technical Authorities to ensure that Defence Nuclear Enterprise requirements are met.We are seeking experienced personnel to work within this complex, challenging and important programme. Specifically, we are looking to appoint an Assistant Chief Technologist to support and deputise for the INA Chief Technologist.What you will be doingUsing your knowledge and experience to assist the INA Chief Technologist in the following areas:Maintaining the quality of technical and safety assurance through governance and oversight. Specifying assurance standards and expectations taking account of relevant programme and safety and technical developments. Setting the standards for the quality of delivered outputs ensuring that they are authoritative, value adding, balanced and proportionate. Maintaining arrangements so that INA services are informed, impartial and independent. Reviewing NSQEP requirements and overseeing training strategies. Promoting consistent ways of working across the Nuclear Propulsion Independent (NPIA) Assurance contract. Acting as a consultant to NPDT, when requested, on relevant safety and technical issues and methods of working. Maintaining an overview of significant safety, technical and programme matters and advising NPDT on their resolution. Representing the INA Chief Technologist at meetings with NPDT and their contractors. Working with AT&R Operation Managers and Chief Engineers to provide Technical Leadership across the NPIA contract, promoting a positive culture aligned to the business and programme needs. Building and maintaining relationships at a strategic level with NPDT and their contractors. Membership of a professional institution is desirable. Detailed design knowledge or operational experience of the Naval Reactor Plant through attainment of Naval Nuclear qualifications (eg NSSC, NPWSC or equivalent). Knowledge of safety case structures and staged safety case campaigns (PSRs, PCSRs etc). Good working knowledge of related documentation (NRPA NSMAs, DSA02-DNSR, ONR SAPs etc). Effective communication skills, including the ability to speak with authority across a wide range of Naval Nuclear Propulsion related topics at a senior level and with subject matter experts from a range of technical disciplines to provide professional, independent challenge or advice. This framework must be recognised as the single, authoritative approach for cost, schedule, risk and performance management across E&E-I. It must be flexible enough to apply proportionately to smaller, low-risk consultancy tasks and service orders, while equally being robust enough to govern multi-billion-dollar EPC programmes. It must also be designed so that it can integrate seamlessly with client requirements, contractual obligations and industry standards, ensuring Amentum remains both competitive and compliant while maintaining a high standard of delivery discipline.
    Key ResponsibilitiesStrategic LeadershipDefine and deliver the Project Controls Strategy for E&E-I, fully aligned with finance, digital delivery, and governance frameworks. Lead the creation of The Amentum Way of Project Controls, ensuring it provides a consistent, repeatable, best-practice approach for project controls across all divisions. This will also include taking the best of what the corporation has today. Ensure the framework is scalable, proportionate and adaptable across the full spectrum of project sizes and complexities. Ensure the approach is flexible enough to align with client systems, reporting needs, and contractual requirements, without compromising Amentum standards. Functional Oversight Provide executive oversight for cost management, schedule control, risk management, EVM, estimating, and performance forecasting across all projects. Ensure all projects adopt the core elements of The Amentum Way of Project Controls, with proportional governance based on project categorisation and risk. Guarantee the accuracy, quality and timeliness of all project performance data used for decision-making and corporate reporting. Systems, Tools & Digital Integration Lead the deployment of best-in-class digital project controls tools, ensuring seamless integration with CostPoint, OnPoint, Workday, and other core systems. Ensure the framework is digitised and supported by automated workflows and dashboards that scale from small projects to major programmes and align with the E&E-I project & divisional reporting. Drive advancements in 4D/5D planning, integrated cost/schedule risk analysis, and predictive forecasting. Capability & Community Leadership Build, lead, and mentor the Project Controls Community of Practice, ensuring all practitioners meet SQEP expectations. Develop the competency framework and career progression pathways for project controls professionals. Promote a cohesive culture of professionalism, continuous learning, and excellence across all business units.
    Performance & Improvement Lead a structured continuous improvement programme to enhance maturity, quality, and efficiency of project controls. Ensure lessons learned, audit findings, and assurance outcomes drive improvement in tools, processes, and capability.     Experience & Qualifications Extensive experience delivering project controls or major project delivery on multi-billion-dollar EPC projects within energy, defence, infrastructure or major construction. Proven ability to develop, implement, or operate standardised, cross-business project controls frameworks. Deep proficiency in cost, schedule, risk, EVM, forecasting, and integrated project controls systems. Experience designing scalable project controls methods that flex from small projects to mega-programmes. Demonstrated success integrating project controls systems with finance/ERP environments. Strong senior stakeholder engagement and influence. Professional accreditation (ACostE, AACE, APM, PMI or equivalent). Experience in nuclear defence, nuclear power, environmental remediation, or major government programmes. Experience with NEC3/4, FIDIC, or government contracting frameworks in the UK.     About the OpportunityThe NDT Engineer will provide a document and in-house surveillance service for the supply of large volume bulk materials and complex engineering equipment delivered onto the Hinkley Point C (HPC) Nuclear New Build site. Key ResponsibilitiesA Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) Subject Matter Expert (SME) is required to work closely with Contractors and Engineering teams to review design packages prior to the start of manufacture and to provide specialist expertise to support Suppliers in meeting the requirements of the Technical Specifications. There is a requirement to assist the implementation of HPC & Sizewell C project sourcing strategies by conducting in-depth technical assessments of supplier NDT operations to confirm capabilities and identify any gaps that may require further NDT specialist support. The NDT SME will also perform routine witnessing and surveillance of Supplier NDT arrangements during manufacture prior to product release to the HPC site. The SME is the go-to person for all matters relating to NDT and provides support to the wider team on technical issues. Education, Experience and Skills: Qualification in an Engineering discipline, Degree/ HNC / HND, (or lower if combined with experience gained in complex plant or related industry). Preferably an Incorporated Engineer (IEng) Experience in an NDT leadership role in a manufacturing environment.
