The Opportunity Amentum is the Design and Engineering partner for Sellafield under the PPP (Programme and Project Partners). This is a 20-year arrangement to deliver ~£7bn of major projects. PPP is delivering major projects, site wide improvements and provision of supporting services.  The Project The SIXEP Continuity Plant (SCP), being delivered by the Programme and Project Partners (PPP) at Sellafield, will ensure the site’s existing Site Ion Exchange Effluent Plant (SIXEP) facility can continue its vital work for decades to come. The newbuild SCP facility will play a vital part in Sellafield’s purpose to create a clean and safe environment for future generations. Once operational SCP will ensure the nuclear site will have continued availability to treat and make safe the effluent created by risk reduction activities. The Role  Due to continuing work SCP are now looking to recruit a Senior Structural Designer to join the team in Birchwood.  As a Senior Structural Designer your responsibilities will include:  Develop innovative design solutions for complex nuclear projects, ensuring high standards and adherence to industry best practices. Detailing, draughting and modelling of structural steelwork and concrete including Concrete GA drawings and Concrete RC detailing  Work with multi-disciplinary teams to create integrated design solutions, promoting effective cooperation across all functions. Deliver work in collaboration with site-based construction teams.  Assist and mentor CS&A Apprentices and other Technicians, fostering their technical and professional growth.  Apply and support BIM principles and processes, ensuring compliance with relevant standards.  As a Senior Structural Designer, you will already have:  HNC minimum in a relevant discipline or equivalent academic qualification. At least ten years’ relevant experience across the full lifecycle of design activities. Proficiency in CAD tools and BIM processes, especially Autodesk Revit (essential) Membership in a relevant institute or significant demonstrable experience.     About the opportunity

    Energy Programmes is one of our newest Business Units and has been formed with the vision to support positive change and help shape the future of Nuclear Power. Our embedded teams are delivering support to Hinkley Point C (New build power station in the South West), Sizewell C (located in the South East), helping develop technologies in SMR (Small modular Reactor) capability and working towards building Poland's first Energy Power station.

    Working in both client facing and internal roles we are delivering major programme and project management capabilities throughout the project lifecycle. We are driving to deliver safe, high quality and to time solutions by thinking innovatively and working collaboratively.

    We are currently looking for a Tunnel Engineer who can provide technical expertise to ensure the review, acceptance and technical delivery of design changes during construction of the marine works will thrive in this role. The successful role holder will have a working knowledge of concrete design codes such as Eurocode 2 and their application in the marine and tunnelling environment. We’ll value your existing skills and experience while providing the opportunity to work closely with the JDO Design Team and Construction team to maintain the technical quality of responses (content / consistency / exhaustiveness / accuracy) and construction safety.

    The Tunnel Engineer is the technical lead reviewing and accepting the changes to the design raised by the site contractor, responsible for managing interfaces between the construction contractors and the designers. Being part of NNB’s Engineering Directorate and working on a day-to-day basis on site with the Construction Team, we are committed to fostering an inclusive and dynamic working environment

    Role responsibilities

    • The review and acceptance of design changes proposed by the contractor or designer through Request for Information, Field Change Request or Non- Conformance Report.

    • Support the JDO in the handover of Design Packages released for construction and initiate the delegated responsibilities through this process.

    • Ensure that processes comply with project quality procedures.

    • Management of CDM aspects relating to the design changes during the construction period, including discharging the role of principle designer.

    • Responsible for the nuclear safety acceptance of the design by carrying out surveillance on the design changes during construction.

    • Safety case/golden thread: in the review and acceptance process, ensure the high-level safety case and the design have a clear golden thread to support operations.

    • Strong knowledge of secondary lining to tunnels and shafts using reinforced concrete methods in the marine and tunnelling environment.

    • Strong knowledge of pipe jacking and associated launch/termination structures.

    • Design experience of TBM, pipe jack and secondary lining tunnelling structures.

    • Design process and design activities (preferably related to Nuclear Industry).

    • Working knowledge of Concrete design codes ( Eurocode 2).

    • Design with hazard & accidental safety cases.

    • Working within UK CDM regulations and in a highly regulated industry.

    About the Opportunity
    Amentum is currently recruiting for a Civil and Structural Engineer to join our Energy business, which is entering an exciting phase of opportunity: supporting a key client’s UK nuclear fleet through a business transformation; supporting new small and advanced modular reactor developers. Our work is varied, covering nuclear projects (Licensing, New Build, Generation, Life Extension, and Defueling), Renewable Energy projects and high energy industrial projects, such as data centres and hydrogen production facilities.
