The WM&D Business Unit has led the field of research and development work related to the safe management and disposal of radioactive waste, for over 30 years. The work includes a variety of activities across the areas of nuclear waste management, including the following topics: Corrosion Science, Materials Science, Radiation Sciences, Nuclear Materials, Radiochemistry, Environmental Sciences, Safety Case Assessment, Mathematical modelling, Geological Studies (including site characterisation and modelling), Criticality Modelling, Spent Fuels, Integrated radioactive waste management.CANDIDATES ARE NOT EXPECTED TO HAVE EXPERIENCE IN ALL THE FIELDS LISTED ABOVE – your areas of specialism will simply determine the role or team you will be assigned to. We implement hybrid and flexible working, but you will be attached to a comapny office at Harwell, Warrington or Cumbria and will focus on providing technical and scientific capabilities to support our clients in a variety of real-world technical challenges. As a Consultant, your role will include the following:Deploying desk-based, analytical and/or experimental capabilities to assess, rationalise and document solutions for a variety of scientific or engineering problems in the field of nuclear waste management and disposal, including definition, design, procurement and delivery of R&D programmes. The role allows you to join our client facing team delivering the design from its conceptual phase into detailed design, manufacture, and implementation on site. Being part of that team offers a unique opportunity to drive change and innovation in engineering, safety and delivery solutions supporting value engineering. The successful candidates will become part of a respected and ambitious team working from our Humber Facility, within Field Solutions, to support the growth and sustainability of the performance unit moving forward. Field Solutions are offering a truly fantastic opportunity which will allow the successful individuals to be involved across multiple client sectors around the UK supporting this critical site designer role.The role will consist of working alongside our Senior Designer and Project Management team to develop the design deliverables into the project schemes in accordance with British Standards and Client specifications. The role involves the completion of various contract client technical documentation. The successful candidate will be using digital design hardware to upload the collated information onto our data and cloud systems. Typically including new design documents, including P&ID’s , up-dating drawings, design to meet the client gate processes timelines, up-loading and maintaining client’s documentation on their remote platforms and general reporting in line with the contract to the Field Solution Operation leads. Other interfaces include client framework staff, JFS Project QS, HSE staff, Information Manager, external subcontractors, and suppliers. 
    Key Responsibilities include:Working alongside Electrical/Instrument Engineers and Project Managers to develop engineering concepts. Develop design concepts into scheme drawings in accordance with British Standards and Client Specifications. Work alongside and support client Engineering team members. Liaise with other engineering disciplines. Preparation and control of project documentation in accordance with our in-house ISO 9001 Quality Procedures. Prepare drawings for design review meetings as required both internal and external. Prepare for and attend HAZOPS as required.  Ability to work on own initiative. Qualifications: Electrical/Instrument ONC minimum. Competent in the use of 2D computer aided drafting packages (specifically AutoCAD). Competent in use of Amtech (Trimble) ProDesign cable calculation package. Knowledge of ATEX related design/installation requirements (preferable).
