We are here for anyone affected by dementia and are keen to reach people in all communities, including those who may be more at risk of isolation through language, accessibility needs, identity or background. You’ll play a crucial role in building and strengthening community links and raising awareness of the services we have available. You’ll take part in events and talk to groups to raise awareness of dementia and to identify people affected by dementia who can share their dementia story with their wider community as well as with us. You’ll also signpost people to access our services. This volunteering opportunity takes place in community venues across Herefordshire e.g. community centres, faith centres, libraries, sports venues, retail outlets. Language skills are desirable as connecting people in diverse communities will be a part of this role.     About The Role Our Singing for the Brain sessions offer people affected by dementia a chance to enjoy a fun activity within a supportive environment, but we need you to help make this happen! Singing for the Brain is a structured group session, designed around the principles of music therapy and singing, for people with dementia, who may attend alone or with a carer. These uplifting sessions offer the people attending an enjoyable activity, as well as the chance to socialise with other people affected by dementia.  As a Singing for the Brain Support Volunteer, you’ll be welcoming and talking to people with dementia, helping them to feel at ease. You will help set up the room and tidy away at the end of the session and help prepare and distribute 
    refreshments as well as supporting the session facilitator by distributing materials such as songbooks. Once the singing session starts, you’ll provide encouragement to participate in the activity, and support the session facilitator with the activities, either online or in person. This role is to support at our Clevedon Singing for the Brain Group, which meets weekly on Tuesdays from 1.30-4pm at Kenn Road Methodist Church, Kenn Road, Clevedon BS21 6LH.

    You’ll be great for the role if: You have an interest in developing meaningful relationships and making a real difference. You want to enable people with dementia to find their voice through music in an incredibly rewarding role. You are fun and enthusiastic. You have the ability to listen and display compassion. If you are supporting our virtual sessions, you will need to be able to navigate effectively online and be able to use Zoom with confidence. Experience of dementia is not essential, nor is the ability to sing!     About The Role Our Dementia Friends programme raises absolutely essential awareness of dementia, but we need you to make it happen! As a Dementia Friends Ambassador, you’ll be changing attitudes about dementia by delivering Dementia Friends Sessions and interacting with the public on a regular basis. A representative in your local area, you’ll also be raising awareness of the work of Alzheimer’s Society, helping to ensure people affected by dementia are aware of the vital information and support we offer, and people or businesses know about the ways in which they can support us. This could include handing out our leaflets, encouraging the public to access our services and attending local events and talks. There are lots of other exciting ways you can get involved too, such as being a friendly face at local fundraising events, sharing social media posts or putting up posters. This role is community-based covering Torbay, and requires a minimum two-hour commitment, four times per year. 

    We would love to see applications from under-represented groups across the Torbay area.

    If your application is successful, you would need to complete 6 hours of training before starting as a volunteer. This would be in the form of eLearning (1 hour) and specific Dementia Friends Ambassadors training (5 hours online).
