    Job Description

    About the Infrastructure Team

AECOM’s Infrastructure team, part of our Building Engineering Business Line, delivers creative and practical civil engineering solutions across a wide range of sectors including housing, commercial, education, aviation, and major regeneration schemes. We support both public and private sector clients, many of whom return to us for our specialist expertise and understanding of their requirements.
Our team is involved throughout the full project lifecycle—from early pre-feasibility and masterplanning, through detailed design and coordination, to construction-stage support. As part of this dynamic team, you will gain exposure to diverse infrastructure design activities and contribute to significant, high-profile projects across the UK.
Examples of Projects the Civils/Infrastructure Team Work On
Shawfield Masterplan and Remediation — Glasgow : AECOM assembled a multidisciplinary team of in-house and external specialists to address the technical challenges of regenerating this complex 65-hectare site. Services included engineering, geotechnical, environmental, hydrology, and civil/structural design, with subconsultants providing transportation, masterplanning, architectural, landscape, and planning expertise. The site—featuring a new river walkway and footbridge—forms the southern portion of the broader 800-hectare Clyde Gateway Development. Old Oak Common — London : AECOM is providing infrastructure and masterplanning expertise to OPDC for the regeneration of one of Europe’s largest brownfield sites. Plans include over 26,000 new homes, around 560,000 sqm of office accommodation, and nearly 49,000 new jobs expected by 2050. The development requires major upgrades to strategic infrastructure, including new highways, bridges, drainage systems, power, telecoms, potable water, gas networks, and a low-carbon district heating system. City of London Markets Consolidation — London : AECOM is delivering Infrastructure, Structural, Transportation, and Environmental services to support the relocation and consolidation of the historic Billingsgate, Spitalfields, and Smithfield markets to a single modern site. The project involves significant infrastructure planning and multidisciplinary coordination. North West Cambridge Development — Cambridge : Since 2009, AECOM has provided engineering consultancy services for the University of Cambridge’s 136-hectare mixed-use development. Our multidisciplinary work includes highway design, drainage strategies and flood risk assessment, energy strategy, and geotechnical and geochemical investigations for this extensive long-term programme. Rolls-Royce UK Facilities : AECOM has a long history of collaboration with Rolls-Royce as one of its global suppliers. Across multiple UK sites, we have delivered projects ranging from minor facility upgrades to major new manufacturing buildings. Our civil engineering services span the entire project lifecycle—from site acquisition through to asset disposal. Manchester Airport — Westgate PP12 : AECOM provided outline and detailed design for the relocation of an existing security control post, enabling cargo and service vehicles to transition between landside and airside. The project also includes a new waste recycling facility and security control building. Services included civils, utilities, geotechnical, structures, and pavement design.
    Job Responsibilities

As part of AECOM’s Infrastructure team within the Building Engineering Business Line, you will support the delivery of innovative civil engineering solutions for a wide range of projects — from major UK regeneration schemes to smaller developments. With guidance from experienced engineers, your responsibilities may include:
Assisting in the preparation of concept designs for surface water and foul water drainage systems. Supporting the development of preliminary utility layouts and feasibility assessments. Producing initial junction layout options and contributing to highway and route studies. Creating 3D models of site levels, road alignments, and associated infrastructure elements. Helping to develop surface water management and drainage strategies. Working collaboratively with other disciplines to ensure coordinated and integrated design outputs.
    Qualifications
Currently working towards a degree in Civil Engineering or a closely related discipline. Genuine interest in pursuing a career in civil engineering, with an ambition to work towards CEng accreditation through a relevant engineering institution. Proficient in Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, PowerPoint). Strong numerical proficiency and effective communication skills (both written and verbal). Ability to think methodically and logically to support the design, planning, and organisation of project tasks. Creative, practical, adaptable, and enthusiastic in approach. Demonstrated attention to detail and accuracy in work outputs. Self-motivated, proactive, and keen to learn new software, tools, and methodologies.
    Additional Information

We’ll provide you with all the tools and support you need to work towards your professional development ambitions. We’ll push you to achieve the highest standards. You will be assigned a line manager to support and guide your development.
There’ll be on-the-job technical development and classroom training where required, and the opportunity to work on live client projects with significant multi-disciplinary exposure.
Training will be provided in both discipline specific and general office/ business skills with REVIT being a key piece of software where focused training will be provided following an initial assessment to be undertaken as part of the recruitment process, from which we can target key areas for support and development.
We are a Disability Confident Employer and will offer an interview to applicants who have a disability or long-term condition, who meet the minimum/essential criteria for the role.
