This Lead Production Engineer role is focused on optimising manufacturing operations with a strong mechanical bias across industrial processes such as mixing, impregnation, pressing, CNC machining and oven-based production. The position combines hands-on Production Engineering experience with responsibility for establishing robust process controls, improving flow, reducing waste and driving consistent quality across value streams. It requires proven capability in APQP, PFMEA, Control Plans and SOP development, as well as strong experience in the design, control and management of tooling, fixtures and jigs. The role also involves troubleshooting process issues, analysing manufacturing data and applying standard engineering tools such as VSM, Yamazumi, MOST time studies and SPC.In addition to driving technical improvement, the role plays a key leadership function by training others in best-practice industrialisation methods, supporting new product introductions and coaching less experienced engineers. The position requires someone confident in leading, influencing and deputising for the Production Engineering Manager when required. It suits an individual who combines depth of mechanical and production engineering expertise with clear leadership presence, strong communication skills and a collaborative, methodical approach within a fast-paced, cross-functional environment.Updated Responsibilities Lead Production Engineering activities within assigned value streams, maintaining a strong mechanical bias.Deliver training and coaching to develop team capability, particularly around APQP, industrialisation and core engineering tools.Support and deputise for the Production Engineering Manager when required.Apply APQP methodologies and lead PFMEA, Control Plan and SOP development activities.Oversee tooling, fixture and jig design, control and lifecycle management.Map, analyse and optimise processes using VSM, Yamazumi, Spaghetti diagrams, MOST time studies and SPC.Drive improvements in flow, efficiency, cost and waste reduction across industrial processes (mixing, impregnation, pressing, CNC machining, ovens).Maintain and update SOPs to ensure consistent process control and quality standards.Troubleshoot complex production issues, improving reliability, repeatability and OEE.Lead production engineering input for new product and process introductions.Monitor and analyse manufacturing data, implementing corrective and preventive actions.Contribute to Lean activities, audits, KPI reporting and the development of annual improvement plans.Ensure compliance with safety, environmental and regulatory requirements.Updated Skills & Experience Proven Production Engineering experience with a strong mechanical bias.Hands-on experience with industrial processes including mixing, impregnation, pressing, CNC machining and ovens.Strong working knowledge of APQP, PFMEA, Control Plans, SOPs and related documentation.Experience in designing, managing and controlling tooling, fixtures and jigs.Skilled in engineering tools: process mapping, Yamazumi, VSM, MOST, SPC and Spaghetti diagrams.Strong leadership presence with the ability to coach, mentor and develop junior team members.Able to deputise effectively and influence across functions.Excellent problem-solving, analytical and root-cause skills.Strong communication skills and ability to work with cross-functional teams.Capable of managing multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment with attention to detail and a methodical approach.Knowledge of process safety, regulatory compliance and engineering drawings including GD&T.ACS are recruiting for a Lead Production Engineer.
