There is an expectation that everyone will spend time in the office on a regular basis, recognising that some work is better done face to face. Managers will work with their teams on what works best to meet individual, team, business and organisational needs to enable collaboration, as well as balancing personal choice and wellbeing.
About Fitness to Practise (FTP) The Department consists of eight case management teams that receive and investigate concerns about Registrants' fitness to practise and protection of title offences, and the HCPC Tribunal Service (HCPTS), which is the adjudication service of the HCPC. We employ around 130 people, who are collectively responsible for the delivery of the HCPC's fitness to practise and adjudication work. We manage an open caseload of approximately 2000 fitness to practise cases in house.
Fitness to practise, in this context, describes the process we use to investigate concerns that are raised about our Registrants' conduct, competence, health or character.
About the role The Senior Decision Makers evaluate and assess information received in the initial stages of our fitness to practise investigations to make sound decisions. They apply our Threshold Policy to decide if cases should close or be referred to our Investigating Committee. For cases that are closed, they draft those decisions. For cases that are referred to the Investigating Committee, in addition to making the decision that the case meets our Threshold policy, the Senior Decision Makers are responsible for deciding when a case is ready to be considered by an Investigating Committee Panel (ICP). This involves assessing the particularised allegations and the evidence available to the panel.
This role will require the post-holder to make high volumes of decisions autonomously, which stand up to scrutiny, and are of a high quality.
In addition to this work, the post-holder will be responsible for providing guidance and case direction to case management teams, to support the delivery of high quality and effective decision-making.
Candidate Requirements You will have significant experience of autonomous decision-making (in a legal or regulatory environment), including demonstrable ability and understanding of applying legislation, guidance, or policies, and making evidenced-based decisions. You will have a high level of written English and verbal communication skills, and an ability to use your initiative to work effectively under pressure. Your strong communication skills will enable you to work effectively within a team and with your peers, to build and maintain positive relationships and assist colleagues by sharing and applying knowledge as required.
You will be able to demonstrate sound judgement, in circumstances where you will be required to analyse high volumes of complex case information. This will be particularly important as you will be required to make sound, evidence-based decisions about the HCPC's position when applying the Threshold Policy in written reports which will be sent to internal and external stakeholders.
Please submit a supporting statement along with your CV. Applications without a supporting statement will not be reviewed.
