Provisional Start Date: January 2025 Lead Strategic Governance Across Our Federation – Deputy Head of Governance We are seeking an experienced and highly organised governance professional to join our small, dedicated team overseeing all aspects of governance across the Trust. As Deputy Head of Governance, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the smooth operation of governance processes, with a particular focus on: Policy oversight – maintaining the policy schedule and ensuring timely reviews. Local tier governance – leading on induction, training, and support for local governance groups. Admissions knowledge – leading on Admissions for the Trust Clerk team management – line managing our team of Clerks and providing clerking cover for committees and other meetings as needed. You will bring a keen eye for detail, strong communication skills, and a proactive approach to problem-solving. Flexibility is essential, as the role may require covering meetings at short notice, including some outside of standard working hours. The Governance team also meets weekly at Winterstoke Hundred Academy, and there will be travel to other sites as the role involves clerking for five schools. The role is for 24 hours per week, which can be worked flexibly across the week and will include some after-school meetings. Candidates may choose to spread these hours over three or four days. All arrangements are negotiable. In this vital role, you’ll play a key part in supporting strong governance across our schools, ensuring compliance and smooth operations that help our trust thrive. This varied role includes: Clerking for five schools – preparing agendas, taking accurate minutes, and ensuring compliance with statutory requirements. Supporting the central governance team – assisting with processes, documentation, and coordination to keep everything running smoothly. Collaborating weekly – we meet as a team every week to share updates and work together. You’ll also support wider governance functions such as FOIs, SARs, and policy administration, as well as liaising with schools for newsletter items and leading on recruitment checks. Your contribution will help ensure governance across the trust is robust, efficient, and aligned with best practice. About you: You will have: Strong administrative experience, including organising meetings and supporting events. Excellent organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines. High standards of written and oral communication, with the ability to produce accurate documents and minutes. Proficiency in MS Office and confidence using digital systems. The ability to build positive relationships with a wide range of stakeholders and maintain confidentiality. A flexible, proactive approach and commitment to continuous improvement. GCSEs in English and Maths (Grade C or above) or equivalent qualifications. Desirable: Experience of clerking meetings, knowledge of governance procedures, and familiarity with relevant legislation.
